PERU MISSION UPDATE
by Paula Sindoni
Some of you may remember a guest speaker who spoke about her work in Peru at the weekend Masses last July 19 & 20. The speaker, Sister Katherine McGrath, S.C.H., was born and grew up in St. Peter's Parish in Dorchester. She graduated from Monsignor Ryan High School, which closed in June 2003. After high school, she joined the Sisters of Charity and taught at St. Kevin's in Dorchester, St. Patrick's in Roxbury, and St. Ambrose in Dorchester, and spent twelve years in youth ministry at St. Mary of the Angels in Egleston Square, Roxbury.
Sister had a dream in her heart to go to Peru where her order of Sisters had been since 1968, but language was an obstacle. Someone convinced her that she could learn the language so she decided to visit the priests, sisters, and people in Peru with whom they were working. When Sister came home, she was not the same; she was moved by the grace of God. She has now been there five years working, living with the people and thereby fulfilling her dream and mission in Peru.
Sister and St. Jerome parishioner Paula Sindoni have been friends since Grade One at St. Peter's; Paula brought Sister's mission work to the attention of Father Wyndham and the parishioners of St. Jerome Parish who have been so generous in tithing and free will offerings. So many parishioners have come forward both during and since Sister's visit to our parish with books in Spanish and monetary contributions. If you would like to help Sister in her vital missionary ministry, please contact Paula Sindoni (781) 337-5142.
