Guardian Angels Homily
Father Bob: Good morning Boys and Girls
Today we are going to learn more about our Guardian Angels.
Michelle, our visitor for the day is named after one of the more famous angels. Michael the Archangel. Say good morning Michelle.
Michelle: Good morning Boys and Girls. I'm actually a retired angel. I used to take care of a little girl in the neighborhood. But she got a cat. And you know how that is.
Father Bob: Tell us, Michelle, what was it like to be an angel.
Michelle: It was real cool. I didn't have to have this body that really slows me down now. And I had great eyes that could see much further than anyone on this earth. And my ears could pick up sounds from miles away.
Father Bob: How do you get to be an angel. Do you sign up for the job? Do you have to have special training to be an angel?
Michelle: Nope! You just get created. Like once, you were nothing, then all of a sudden, you're an angel. We get our assignments right from God. No special training needed, just make sure that your assigned person knows that they are loved by God. It sort of comes naturally. It's really an easy job especially because you got a lot of other angels around to help you. There's a lot of very good people around too. We angels try to get all these very good people to meet each other so that they can help each other out. And they don't need any special training either. God made them that way. He made all of us to be just like Himself.
Father Bob: Why do we need angels, Michelle?
Michelle: Because God doesn't want us to see Him yet. So He has these angels to act for Him. There's like a curtain that keeps us from seeing God as He really is. And God wants to keep it that way until it's time for us to meet Him face to face. So, until that day comes, He has angels to make sure we know that God loves us and that we are precious to Him.
Father Bob: Do you get to do any real exciting things, like saving people from danger.
Michelle: Oh, yes. All the time. We don't do too much about the small stuff like bumps and bruises, and sometimes we can't do too much about crashes and things like that because there are some very strict laws of nature that always have to be followed, but there are a lot of times that we can remind our assignments to be careful. We keep sending them messages by sending them other people to show our assignments how to do things and what to avoid and how to be careful. Things like that. We're busy all the time.
Father Bob: Do you ever get to let your assignment see you?
Michelle: Well, sometimes, but not like you think. The way it usually happens is by another person who is very wise and very loving and they do something great for our assignment. Then someone says: "You're an angel!" We're like mirrors for God's love. Our job is to make sure that our special charges have lots and lots of people around them to show the different ways that God loves them.
Father Bob: Do you have wings and long robes and stuff like that?
Michelle: Naw. That's what some people think we are like. But we don't need that kind of stuff. Besides, wings would make it pretty difficult to get around. And what would you attach them too? We don't have bodies. I know you don't understand all this right now, but trust me. We are very real and very busy. I have to go over to South Shore Hospital now, I think I'm going to be getting another assignment.
Father Bob: Well, thank you for stopping by and being an angel for us today. Say Hi to your boss from all of us at St. Jerome parish

Evening of Healing
December 27, 2004
An evening of healing was conducted by Paul Miller at Saint Jerome Church. The event was coordinated by fellow parishioner, Donna Knight. Paul Miller is a member of the Healing and Restoration Ministry of Father Edward McDonough. He graciously accepted an invitation to visit our church.
Deacon Joseph Vitello generously hosted the evening as a representative of Saint Jerome's clergy. Deacon exposed the Blessed Sacrament for adoration, and warmly welcomed Paul Miller.
Tim Maynard, John Peruzzi and Peg Gillis provided the musical backdrop for the service. The soft guitar background and the melding of harmonious voices floated through the church adding a reverence to the prayerful evening. Simple but powerful.
Paul Miller relayed his personal testimony of how he became a spiritual healer. Extraordinary healing is the gift of spiritual, emotional and physical healing. All were invited to put their faith in the healing power of Jesus. After his introduction, Paul led the congregation in the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. All in attendance were then blessed as a group, and invited to be blessed individually.
When blessed individually some people rest in the spirit. The blessing is conveyed regardless of whether the individual rests. It is however a very powerful part of the service to witness and to experience. The children were blessed early so that they would not have to be out late. The next day when asked about what it felt like, four-year old Bobby Knight replied "It felt like I met God." When asked about what He looked like he couldn't really answer that question. He said "…It was more like I felt Him in my heart." Janet Peruzzi reflected "I am grateful for what I received as a personal healing and for the opportunity to experience the unity of our faith joining with others in prayer." Doris Flanagan felt that "A lot of people left there different than when they came." Others commented on the effects of the peacefulness of the evening and how amazing it was that everyone was receiving something from God through His healing power.
Paul ended the evening by reminding those that were present that they might think that they attended because a neighbor, a sibling, or friend invited them……in fact all were in attendance because Jesus invited them. He also encouraged us to pray the rosary daily and to pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Deacon Vitello concluded the service with Benediction.
Everyone in attendance marveled at Paul's story. All of the events of the evening culminated into a very powerful and spiritual reawakening. Everyone was moved in some way by the service. We are truly grateful that Paul Miller shared his tremendous gift of extraordinary healing with the parishioners of Saint Jerome Church. We admire his devotion to the Healing Ministry and can only hope that he will visit us again in the future.
